CJ's Sand Castle Creation

One of CJ's favorite places to visit in California is the park across from Grandma and Grandpa's house. This morning she and Daddy braved the cold to create this sand castle, complete with wheelchair ramps and more.

Dog Days

We celebrated the good news of CJ's new school with her uncles at one of our favorite California destinations.

Each year this place gets a bit nice. We had lots of son, some good beers and a fancy cheese plate for the wee one. Little B enjoyed lots of pets from the people nearby. Luckily we went early - by the time we left there were no seats to be had.

She Won the Lottery

We got an interesting call today. It seems that CJ has won the lottery! We had applied to many schools a year and a half ago, but CJ did not get a spot for kindergarten. We were really happy with the school she did attend and planned on going back for another year, but got a mysterious call on the trip down to California that there might be a spot for her elsewhere. Today we got confirmation. She's been offered a spot in the charter school that was at the top of our list. It's a bit nerve-wracking making this decision so quickly and so close to the start of the school year, but we are planning on giving it a shot. Had we known this earlier, we might have made different plans for this trip as we'll be driving home all day on Monday and she will start school on Tuesday. I hope it goes well.

California Wandering

We usually stick close to Grandma and Grandpa's house once we get to California, but today we did a little wandering. Mama found a yummy cafe via the internet and after we ate, we took Little B for a short walk in the area.

CJ enjoyed looking for a shell on this beach that was covered with them. She found one with a hole in it that resembled a heart.

We saw some California grapes:

An interesting bike (it was pulling a cart that didn't make it into the picture):

And ended the walk at another park. Yeah, the sun was finally coming out!

California Bound

Today we are heading south for a quick visit with Grandma and Grandpa before school starts. We debated about spending the night and splitting up the trip, but ended up deciding to drive all the way in one day. Let's hope CJ's willing to power through the full-day drive in a good mood. We've pretty much got it down to a science at this point.
