During, Not After

I'd like to say these are "after" shots, but there is still a bit to do in the bathroom.

Here's the tile after one pass of peroxide on the subway tile.  Much better.
We may touch up some areas, but we got enough done to do some painting.

And here are the walls with color - Yarmouth Blue.
We've been pretty much sticking with Benjamin Moore colors and paint this go-round.
It really matches the subway accent tile well.

Trim still needs to be painted (Mama lost a little steam after a late night Sunday),
medicine cabinet door reinstalled, lights up (might need to do so shopping there) and
we need to figure out what to do with the towel bars and all the holes in the tiles from prior
installation of items over many years.  Plus we plan on adding a shower conversion kit.

So, a ways to go, but it feels much cleaner now.

What White?

We left the peroxide on the tile overnight and thought it looked pretty good this morning (oops, didn't take a picture of it yet.)

Then we got to work priming the walls since they were clear of wallpaper.

Mama cut in the edges of the ceiling and you can see how off-white the Acadia White paint looks next to the primer.  That's ok.  The white subway tile isn't so white either and once we get the walls painted and the trim done, it will look much more white.

Bath Beauty

Here's the subway tile "before" picture - yuck!

Based on some internet research, we decided to try using 40% peroxide to see if we could get some of the stains out.  So after a trip to the beauty supply we coated the wall and plastered it with paper towels and covered it all with plastic to keep it damp.  Then we applied the heat.

Warning - peroxide can turn your skin white!

So Cal Car

Mama went for a run this morning and came across this red beauty.  We finally live somewhere where you could make use of a convertible for more than one week a year.  Wouldn't this look great in front of Bungalow Twenty Two?

Foyer, Vestibule, Dishwasher Room

Not sure what to call it, but this weekend we got to work on the front room and getting rid of the faux painting that Daddy likened to a smoothie explosion.

Thanks, SDG&E

Here's the old O'Keefe and Merritt range that came with the house.

This stove was listed as working like a charm and it has been the subject of much conversation by everyone who comes to the house.  It's been warm since we took possession and since we had a plumber coming to cap some other gas lines (among other projects), we asked him to re-do the line for the stove.  He was a bit concerned about the safety of the stove so didn't relight the pilot lights.

Mama had an appointment with a vintage stove repair person scheduled for next week, but today SDG&E came and helped us relight the pilots.  The tech also cleaned the lines in the stove and got the one sticky burner working and adjust safety controls within the unit.  He spent so much time on it and left us feeling much more comfortable with the unit so we went ahead and cancelled the $135 appointment with the vintage stove repair company.  He also checked out the hot water heater and tested the house to make sure that everything was fine.  All as a service of the gas company and at no cost to us.

Moving Day

What a day!
The semi had 9 containers full of our stuff from storage.

Things seemed to be going pretty well until the movers brought in our desk in two pieces.  That was the big loss for the day.

We added a little stress to the mix by also having a new refrigerator delivered during the day and trying to get our cable hooked up, which turned out to be troublesome as the rep found noise on the line and they had to send a tech over in the evening to get us going.  It was hectic, but Little B was great and mostly stayed out of the way.  Our realtor was nice enough to take CJ to swim lessons and to bring us lunch and the neighbors brought us food for dinner.  A nice welcome to San Diego.

Speed Painting

Yesterday we started our first round of "speed painting".  Daddy got the ceiling done in CJ's room and Mama got a couple of coats on the walls.  It's a bit challenging as we have an extra step in each room to prime everything to cover up plaster repairs and also due to the fact that we have no power in the house other than an extension cord the electrician left us.  Today we are finishing up with a coat on the trim - saving the doors for some time in the future.

Meanwhile Daddy got to work priming the master ceiling and started to work on the walls.  This room has some thick texture and it is really sucking up the paint.

Number Sixteen

Mama and Daddy celebrated their 16th anniversary by taking a drive up to Stone Brewing's World Bistro and Gardens.  Of course CJ and McKenna joined us.

Snails

When we walk around the apartment complex, we notice a lot of snails - especially early in the day.  CJ thinks the ones in brown shells are boys and the white shells are girls.

Quick Change

Wow!  That was fast.  We stopped back by the house after swimming and found the floor had been stained.  Nice.

Swimming and Swinging

CJ's been taking swim lessons at a local pool this summer and she's doing great.  She started in Beginner 2 and worked her way up to Beginner 3 this session.  Afterwards, she loves to go to the park and eat lunch as we watch planes come in for their landing at the airport.

Goodbye Gym Floor

One of the things that Daddy disliked most about the master bedroom was the floor.  It was obviously updated at some point and instead of being stained dark like the rest of the house, it was bleached light. He felt it looked like a gym floor.

We were able to find a floor "artisan" who could come in and take care of this (around the electrical and plaster work already going on in the house) and then he will also buff and coat the rest of the house before we move in, which has been pushed out until next week.

Today he sanded it and told us that it is red oak, like the rest of the house and not white oak as he had originally suspected.

Out and About

Aunt A is in town so we met up with her for two of our favorite things - pizza and beer!
(followed by frozen yogurt, of course)

Bungalow Twenty Two - Exterior Tour

Tour Guides - CJ and McKenna

Front Door (sort of, it's on the side of the porch)

Street View -
Looking tiny compared to the palm trees

Pergola out back -
Must have been a garage there at some point

Bay view
Looking over the neighbor's yard to the airport and beyond to the water

No grass!
Looking across the paved back yard to the pergola.
Little B's looking for some green.
At least we have the Bougainvillea for some color.

Oopsie

While working in the attic, an electrician discovered a soft spot in CJ's plaster ceiling.  Oopsie.

CJ's Summer Projects

The Doggie Daycare.  She started this project at the house, using the styrofoam from the new microwave.  She brought it back to the apartment so Cooper and Twinkle Peanut could enjoy all the rooms and the doggie treat area.  It's only $5/week so we plan on sending B there a lot this year!

The "Candy of the City" store.
This is one of CJ's more extravagant inventions.  She started a candy store on the coffee table.
She drew and cut out all sorts of candy and treats to buy from popcorn to chocolate bars to tootsie rolls.
Then she added credit cards and a machine to swipe it through.  This one keeps growing.

The Sun Adventures.

CJ wrote and illustrated this great book about going to the beach with Mama.

Of course it has an author's note on the back.

One night she made us all crowns.
Mama got the beach lover one.

Daddy got a special drawing, inspired by a Trader Joe's sticker.

And CJ even created a chart to track
How Mane Huming Brids We See
(How Many Hummingbirds We See)

Thank Goodness we brought pens and paper with us!
